Higher Education Unit
The Higher Education Unit of the Office of Education oversees activities
and programs at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) designed to maintain
and broaden the Center's interaction
with the education community. Special attention is directed to local colleges and universities
along the northern and eastern seaboard and aerospace-oriented
institutions nationwide having programs
of mutual interest to Goddard.
The Unit manages NASA-wide and GSFC unique fellowship, internship, and scholarship
grants programs at GSFC, provides programmatic support for other university-related programs, within the various
laboratories at GSFC. Descriptions of these programs both those administered by the Higher Education Unit and
those whom the Unit supports are provided below.
The Unit also develops new programs to enhance the GSFC research and
engineering missions through increased contact with the college and
university community. The Unit's programs deal with students at the
undergraduate and graduate levels, faculty members,
researchers, and in some cases, the teachers of teachers. The Unit also hosts the on-line intern application
process that serves the Unit's student internships, the Office of Education's Elementary and Secondary Unit's
high school internship programs, and some of the higher education programs run by other organizations at GSFC.
In addition, the Unit serves as a point of contact for college and
university faculty and students interested in exploring and developing
cooperative relationships with GSFC. Special attention is paid to
cultural diversity.
We are not yet accepting applications for Summer 2010. The application will open in late November or early December.
A sampler of projects from last summer (2009) is available as an illustration of the type and range of projects that are likely to be available in 2010.
